Verse of the Day - Romans 1:12 In authentic Christian fellowship and living, we learn the art of giving and receiving. We learn healthy ways to depend upon each other. Verse of the Day - Hebrews 13:6 There are all sorts of people who are considered highly successful according to the standards of the world. And yet a lot of them feel incompetent, insecure, and incapable. How about you? Perhaps you look at your life and think it's working. Sure, you have some problems, but compared to others, you're probably considered successful. Yet, inside there is still a gnawing, inner insecurity and a lack of confidence and a feeling of incompetence. Why is that? Verse of the Day - Isaiah 43:25 When something starts going wrong in your life, do you think, "God's getting even with me, I know it! I did that thing I'm ashamed of yesterday (or last year or twenty years ago) and now he's settling the score." Does God really treat his children that way? Absolutely NOT! Isaiah says God doesn't hold our sins against us. Once we've confessed our sins to him, it's all forgiven and forgotten and he doesn't even bring up the past. We do that to ourselves and other people do too. Do you realize that when God looks at you, He sees you through Jesus Christ? When Jesus died on the cross, He paid for all of your sins so you are forgiven and they are forgotten. HALLELUJAH! That's why becoming a Christian is such GOOD NEWS. When you give Jesus your life and He takes it, forgives you and then gives you a new chance. He says, "Now I see you without a single fault. You stand before me covered with my love." Verse of the Day - Isaiah 54:10 God says you're lovable. This is so important because you can't fulfill God's commandment to "love your neighbor as yourself" until you believe this and live this. If you don't feel lovable, you can't love anybody else. Our verse today says a couple things about God's love for us. God loves you consistently -- He doesn't love you one day and not the next. He doesn't love you on your good days and not on your bad days. God is 100% consistent in his love for you. God loves you unconditionally -- He says, "I will always love you and it is unconditional. You don't earn it." He doesn't say, "I love you if you're good, or if you do these things, or because you look this way or you do these things." Grant it, Hod may not be pleased with some of our behavior but thank God for us unshakeable, unfailing love and grace! You never have to wake up in the morning and say, "God, are you going to love me today? You may be struggling to understand a love like this. You may be asking yourself, "How can God love someone like me after all the things I have done?" Nothing you can do can change His mind about how much He loves you. Verse of the Day - Psalm 145:18 It's important to remember three encouraging facts about the closeness of God, our Father: God is never too busy - "The Lord is near to all who call on him." Verse of the Day - Romans 12:4-5 God wants to use you to make a difference in his world. He wants to work through you. What matters is not the duration of your life, but the donation of it. Gideon was poor; Samson was codependent; David had an affair and all kinds of family problems. Elijah was suicidal; Jeremiah was depressed; Jonah was reluctant; Naomi was a widow. Peter was impulsive and hot-tempered; Martha worried a lot. Thomas had doubts; Paul had poor health; and Timothy was timid. That is quite a variety of, what seems like, misfits, but God used each of them in His service. Verse of the Day - Ephesians 4:23-24 Paul explains our three responsibilities in becoming like Christ -- First, we must choose to let go of old ways of acting. "Everything . . . connected with that old way of life has to go. It's rotten through and through. Get rid of it!" (Ephesians 4:22 MSG). It is impossible to become a new creature in Christ when we are still operating in old ways. Second, we must change the way we think. "Let the Spirit change your way of thinking." (Ephesians 4:23 CEV) The Bible says we are "transformed" by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2). Everything starts with a thought. Renewing of your mind is not a one time occurrence. But moment by moment. Third, we must put on the character of Christ by developing new, godly habits. Your character is essentially the sum of your habits; it is how you habitually act. The Bible says, "Put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:24 NIV) Every day, we should be intentional on developing more and more Christ-like character. The first part of that is in our mind. Make the choice to allow the Holy Spirit to help you become more like Christ. This is by applying God's word in your life. Your old self, old habits, old thoughts will keep resurfacing. But with each step, with each renewed thought, with each new godly habit, you will begin to see changes in you and your life. Verse of the Day - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What happens to your relationships when you're run down? Little issues become big problems when you're tired. You're more cranky, defensive, and critical when you're physically low and emotionally on empty. Yesterday we touched on RECHARGING emotionally. What are some habits the Bible says will physically REFRESH you? Rest - "It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves?" (Psalm 127:2 MSG) It's amazing how much better things look and how good you feel after a good night's sleep. Many people are too tired to love their kids, too tired to love their family, too tired to love their spouse, and too tired to love themselves. Balanced Diet-- And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food" (Genesis 1:29 ESV) Choosing fruits and vegetables more often than chips and cookies will give us more sustained energy. Lettuce and tomato on a giant bacon cheeseburger does not count as a salad. What we put into our bodies is connected to how well our bodies feel and function. Regular Exercise--"Honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:20 NIV) Our bodies were made for activity. In Bible times they didn't have to cars; they walked everywhere, they did a lot physical work. But most of us drive everywhere and will drive in circles around a parking lot waiting for a parking space close to the door. Some exercise is better than no exercise. Thank God for what you are able to do. Are you glorify the Lord by getting rest, by eating a balanced diet, by exercising? Do you need to hit the REFRESH button? Jesus is waiting. He is aaying “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28 NIV) and He is saying "For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” (Jeremiah 31:25). HALLELUJAH! Thank you Lord! Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Verse of the Day - Mark 6:31 When your emotional tank is empty, you're unable to love others unselfishly. You just give up. You may have a sense of being overwhelmed and feeling inadequate, tired and drained. You may even get angry at the ones you love the most for no apparent reason. You may try to avoid people or view them as problems. To love others and not let an empty emotional tank cause havoc in your life, you have to keep your emotional tank full. When it gets low, it's going to make a difference in your relationships and how you view life in general. One of the ways the Bible suggestions for recharging emotionally is solitude. You need time alone with God. Today's verse teaches us Jesus frequently withdrew from crowds when he needed to recharge himself. In this case there was so much hustle and bustle, Jesus says to the disciples, "Come apart for a while." (KJV) You either come apart or you will come apart. With the busyness of life, we have to be intentional about taking time to rest and recharge. Is your emotional tank running on empty? Do you need to recharge? It's time to take some time to go to a quiet place with the Lord. It could be some time in the park, sitting on the porch early in the morning, or taking a vacation to rest, relax, and recharge. Verse of the Day - Hebrews 10:37 If you're discouraged because of God's "delay" in answering your prayers, it is important to understand a few things. "Delay" is NOT a denial and it's also important to understand that God's timing is perfect. Just because the answer hasn't come - YET - that doesn't mean God isn't going to answer or that he's forgotten you or that he doesn't care about you. Part of becoming spiritually mature is learning the difference between "no" and "not yet," between a denial and a "delay". The Bible tells us, "He who is coming will come and will not delay." (Hebrews 10:37 NIV) Additionally, God's "delay" may be a test of your patience. Anybody can be patient once. And, most people can be patient twice. And, a lot of us can be patient three times. So God tests our patience over and over and over. Why? So he can see how patient you are? No! He does it so you can see how patient you are or are not. So you'll know what's inside you.. God tests you so that you can know He is faithful, even if the answers you seek seems to be delayed. If you're discouraged, turn it around by remembering God teaches you patience and trusting Him in the wait. Ask him to transform your discouragement into patience and praise. Verse of the Day - Galatians 5:1 Facebook likes, Instagram likes, YouTube views, recognization and acknowledgement, and praise from peers — all these things can become avenues through which we build our self-worth. But if you flip that coin, those same things can also become avenues through which we can get torn down, broken and depressed. It’s easy to search for an external win to satisfy the internal longing. But becoming dependent on the performance of yourself and the praise of others doesn’t lead to a life of freedom. Only a relationship with Jesus can produce that kind of purpose and identity. The only way to receive fulfill that internal longing and to thirst no more is through a relationship with the Lord God and receive all that you need from Him. He’ll draw close to you as you draw close to Him (see James 4:8). Be free today from the mirage of satisfaction from impressing, pleasing, and the weighty opinions of others. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? (Matthew 16:26). Freedom, true freedom is in Christ Jesus! Verse of the Day - 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 Think about a time when you were on the losing side of a game or competition. It’s not something you’ll brag about because, deep down, nobody likes to lose. And the same is true for life. We all want to win each day at home, in our relationships, in our careers. But if you base your identity on what you do, your self-worth will become dependent on how good you can be. Don’t let your mistakes or shortcomings define the way you see yourself today. You are in Christ and you walk in His victory! Only Jesus lived a perfect life. And while you will experience some setbacks in this life, His sacrifice on the cross was enough to make you complete and victorious in Him! When you make a mistake, dust yourself off and keep trying! Don't get discouraged, be steadfast! But we thank God for giving us the victory as conquerors through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One (1 Corinthians 15:57)! But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Verse of the Day - Job 1:21 One thing I’m certain that you can be sure of is that God loves you. I’ve been through too much in my life and seen how the Father has taken care of me to say that He doesn’t have His hand on me and I know He has done the same for you. Some people can hardly speak about how they have seen God move in their life without becoming overwhelmed. However, there are some people don’t feel that way about God. They look at their lives and can see only negativity that forces them to ask, “If God loves me, why does life keep hurting me? Why do I keep losing everything that’s valuable?” In this season, in this stage of your life, the fruit you’ve held on to has been picked from the vine. To the flesh, your blessings have been taken from you, and the hurt you feel is accompanied by the longing for what you cannot reclaim. But the Master has not placed value where we have. Whereas we long for what has been taken, the Master is overjoyed with what remains. Could it be that the Lord hides next season’s harvest in what you have left but your faith and trust in God has been blinded by focusing on what was lost? Your miracle is never in what you lost – it’s in what you have left! If you’re down to a handful of meal, that’s all you need. If you’re down to two fish and five loaves of bread, that’s all you need! Like the widow in the Old Testament, you can be down to one last jar of oil, but the Lord has created more capacity for you to pour out, improve upon, and increase what you have left. Start looking at what remains and cease grieving over what you lost. After all, if you needed what the Master took from you, do you really believe the Lord would have sought to take it? The Lord has strategically left a remnant that will give rise to more fruit next season. It’s the remnant that is most valuable to the Vinedresser, for there is life in what remains.
